Practical things: check with your doctor/medical group regarding current travel advisories for vaccinations, or go to the Center for Disease Control Website. Health professionals will need to know that you will be travelling outside of the capital City of Addis Ababa about 4 hours south by car. Ethiopia is warm most of the year with rain common from June through September. Normally rain will be for a short period and not all day.
Missionary Training Program
Basic Description: This program is operated by Shiloh Bible College Ethiopia and a certificate of completion will be awarded upon completion. It is intended to be either a 1 week or 2 week program for missions groups sent by a church accompanied by appropriate church leadership. Groups should be from 6-12 (other size groups can be accommodated with special arrangements). A representative from the church should contact Dr. Gary Munson to discuss dates, specific programs for your group, specific activities that might be of interest to you and costs. A rule of thumb would be that the average cost per person for local transportation, lodging and food will run about $650 per week with specific costs dependent upon the specific activities and decisions made the group leadership. Sightseeing trips to places of interest can be arranged at the expense of the travelers as requested.
Typical Schedule:
Normally travel from the US takes about 26 hours of travel time which means two days with the time change to come to Ethiopia and one day to return. Upon arrival in Addis it is a 4 hour drive by van to Awassa so depending upon which airline and what time you arrive you may choose to stay near Addis the first night or travel on to Awassa depending on your preference. If you are coming for the Missionary Training Program we will pick you up at the airport and bring you back and take care of all travel related needs in between.
Curriculum: The daily teaching sessions of the Missionary Training Program cover: Biblical Mandate for Missions; 21st Century Missions and the Book of Acts; The Holy Spirit in Missions; Islamic Evangelism and Outreach; The Christian Church in Africa Today, and other relevant topics.
