Actually no, there is no snow in Ethiopia and at this time not enough rain either in much of the country. We are praying for the nation and for all those affected by the current drought conditions. If crops did not grow due to lack of rain during last season it will be another year before another harvest can come. International agencies are providing relief supplies and the Ethiopian government is distributing them to those in need. It is a time for prayer and seeking God. Please join with us in prayer for the affected families and children.
Christmas in Ethiopia is actually January 8 this year but Merry Christmas to all our American and international friends who celebrate December 25. Felecia and I get to celebrate Christmas twice, just one of the perks of living in ET.
It has been quite a year for us at Fire Over Africa. Several groups came to visit us and to get involved in the work. As many as 20 came in one group, it was great. Here is the group from Gateways Beyond that did a great outreach in Awassa and many parts of Ethiopia. A great group moving in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Bright Life Children’s home is caring for street children and their families. Here is a photo of the Bright Life Children with Pastors Eric and Iris Butler.
Shiloh Bible College is in the final stages of completing our accreditation process. It has been 7 years that we have been working to
complete this goal and we are nearing the finish line. The great thing is that SBC is becoming a great theological college combining academic, practical, and spiritual dimensions in our diploma and degree programs. This year we added an Amharic Diploma Distance learning program which will shortly reach 500 students and bring our total student body to more than 1000 students.
We recently had our SBC Christmas outreach to the SNNPR prison. It was an awesome day! Our speaker, who ministered to about 500 prisoners, male and female, was our student, a young woman who was very familiar w the prison system. When she was a little girl and her father was incarcerated her mom would take all the kids to the prison church on Sunday to spend it with their father
She preached the perfect message about Peter’s prison experience and then about Paul and Silas in the prison. Just as in the case of Paul and Silas, these in Awassa may be confined behind prison walls, but God is not and whom the Son sets free is free, no matter what your situation. It was amazing and many many were ministered to!
We also recently had a great group from ORU visit us under the leadership of Dr. Solomon Hailu. They are from the International Development Program and visited many NGO’s and government leaders as a part of their internship program. Here is a photo of their visit to Ebenezer-Grace Children’s home. The children were greatly blessed by their coming.
We pray you and your family have had a wonderful Christmas Season and look forward in hope and faith to the new year. We thank all of you who have joined with us in supporting the work in Ethiopia during 2015 and look forward to a great year ahead.
